About Sertoma Club of York

~~~History of Sertoma~~~
    or more than nine decades, mankind has been served by a special family of volunteers, originally known as Co-Operators, and now as Sertomans. Each member of this organization can take pride in the colorful history of the Co-Operative Club International and Sertoma International. This history is based upon information gleaned from old SERTOMAN and THE CO-OPERATOR magazines on file at Sertoma Headquarters. These highlights occurred from the day the first Club was founded as the Co-Operative Club to present day Sertoma International activities.
   The Sertoma Club of York was formed on July 18, 1953 to provide service to the York area community. Since that time, the york club has consistently helped local families, agencies, and groups by providing both financial aid and hands-on service.
    The Sertoma Club of York meets Thursday at 12:10 PM at the Holiday Inn Holidome at the West Manchester Mall, with scheduled speakers and prompt adjournment at 1:30 PM. Programs offer an opportunity to learn, with past programs including UFOs, medical education, candidates for office, sponsorship updates from agencies we help, and so on.
About Sertoma
     Headquartered in Kansas City, missouri, Sertoma is an international organization with about 700 clubs and 17,000 members in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
   The name Sertoma is derived from SERvice TO MAnkind
   Having as members men and woman from professional , service, business, and other employment, Sertoma Clubs offer and opportunity to return some energy and help to those in need in the community, while enjoying fellowship and fun in the process.
   Sertoma International has adopted International sponsorships which include Communicative Disorders, Youth, and National Heritage, but local clubs are autonomous; that is, the local club can select any sponsorship which it thinks can benefit the area.
    To raise funds, the club sells lottery calendars and raffle tickets, cooks chicken BBQ with club owned equipment, sponsors an annual art auction, and numerous other activities. All activities are accomplished by members, families, and friends, and 100% of net proceeds raised are returned to qualified club sponsorships, including those listed here on this website.
   Sertoma is Federally tax-exempt under sEction 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
   The members of the York sertoma Club are proud to provide volunteer services in the York area, and invite you to join us for fun, fellowship, and service to Mankind.
